I absolutely LOVED Maia and Mark’s Langley wedding! It had so many elements that I adore plus Maia and Mark are just the best 🙂  Their wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty last year, so some of you may have seen photos from this wedding already. Trust me, they are worth looking at again! Maia and Mark just recently celebrated their 1st year wedding anniversary on June 15, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY you two!!

Maia and Mark met at Bard on the Beach where they both went with a mutual friend (Megan, who was one of the bridesmaids!), they watched “The Merchant of Venice.” Pretty romantic way to meet your future spouse I’d say! If you would like to see how Mark proposed (it’s SO cute!!) check out their engagement blog post. Their rustic-inspired engagement session was SO wonderful, it got featured on Shop Ruche, Aisle Perfect and Paper Moon Weddings!

For Maia and Mark’s wedding, they continued with the rustic and whimsical theme! Here are Maia’s words: “Whimsical, romantic, meaningful and personal. Those are the words I would use to describe the way Mark and I wanted our wedding day to feel.”

More from the bride: “Mark and I got engaged on October 16, 2012 on the edge of the Fraser River in Fort Langley. While slow dancing, surrounded by flickering candles and photographs documenting our journey together, Mark dropped to one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. Nine months later we danced to that same song, on our wedding day.

After our dream-like engagement, we began the fury of wedding preparations and DIY projects. Mark and I LOVE to make things and I have always loved event planning – the little details are what make it so special! We wanted to incorporate Mark’s love of nature and wood (he has a passion for building guitars) and my love of all things romantic and sentimental! I had visions of beautiful fabric bunting and Edison light bulbs draped like a canopy over top of our guests to create an intimate and memorable atmosphere. I wanted our guests to feel like they were a part of our day not just spectators.

We drew on the amazing abilities of our friends wherever we could! Two gifted friends designed our wedding invitations and programs and one of our friends, Christina Willows, with a passion for flowers created our bouquets. Another friend who LOVES to bake, Melissa Suzuki, agreed to take on the task of creating a ‘sweet’ table including homemade cake pops, cookies and jam jar pies! We borrowed mason jars from friends, collected coupons to purchase burlap and, whenever the opportunity presented itself, made (sometimes dangerous) stops by the side of the road to pick up branches and stumps to add to our decor collection! I made the boutonnieres for the guys, Mark and I designed our very own “kissing wheel” and Mark’s mum helped us to sew the beautiful bunting that hung overhead.

The day before our wedding we began the set-up process. Mark, his brothers and his father built a GORGEOUS arch right in the church parking lot! It was an amazing focal point and has now found a home in his parents backyard. We lined the aisle with bunting (borrowed from another friends wedding) and carefully placed the stumps and mason jars filled with flowers from his Aunt’s garden along the stage. Seeing as Mark and I weren’t able to get into the reception venue until the morning of, we hired an INCREDIBLE design team (Alyssa Short Designs) who understood our vision and could make our dream come to life! A very close friend served as our wedding officiant (his first wedding EVER) and he did an amazing job!

We had an incredible team of friends and family who assisted in the planning, set-up and tear down of our wedding. Although a DIY wedding can often be more work, for us it was worth it. We included interactive games for our guests and, accompanied by a friend on the guitar and harmonica, I sang a song for my groom. The highest compliment that was paid to us was, time and time again, hearing “that wedding was SUCH a reflection of you both”. We wanted our love for one another, for life, for our friends and our faith to shine through our wedding.

PS – I could also mention that, with help, I created a mood board for our bridesmaids and groomsmen to help with their attire. I wanted my girls to have a concept of what to wear but to have freedom/flexibility to choose a dress that suited them. Proud moment: none of my girls spent over $40 on their dresses!”

As the temperature heats up, our moods get a little better, our skin gets a little tanner, our smiles a little brighter and we want to be outside! What better time for photos?  🙂

With the warmer season upon us, clients are wondering what to wear to a photo session? I have created, with the help of Galler.ee, a few outfits inspired by the 2014 Pantone Fashion Color Report! Feel free to pin your favourite combinations!

1. Violet Tulip + Placid Blue
Casual and beachy! The combination of Violet Tulip and Placid Blue look stunning together. Calm, quiet, and breezy, these cool colors are perfect set against warmtone backgrounds such as sand, wood, and sunsets. Wonderful for all skin tones and hair colors.

1-MS-900px2. Paloma Grey + Freesia Yellow + Cayenne
Paloma Grey, Freesia Yellow, and Cayenne combine to make a bold statement sure to make everyone crave icy lemonade. This citrus inspired summer look will make for dazzling portraits that pop even in the brightest of sunlight. The large amount of grey in each outfit keeps the red and yellow tones from being too overwhelming.2-MS-900px
3. Radiant Orchid + Dazzling Blue
Radiant Orchid is the  2014 Pantone color of the Year and it’s gorgeous! These two darker shades are strong yet complement each other. Don’t be afraid to get creative with rich, strong hues, as long as you have plenty of white and neutrals to balance it out! This purple perfection is a wonderful look for urban environments and floral settings. Tip: If the guys plaid shirt has hints of a secondary color, use that in the ladies clothing or accessories to further blend the outfit.3-MS-900px 4. Cayenne
Ah, Cayenne a color nearly as dizzying as the summer heat! This rich red hue is not for the faint of heart, stealing the attention wherever you go and adding an explosive pop of color to your images. Recommended for urban environments, set against neutral palettes of stone, metal, and industrial areas. Cayenne is also a great accent color for photoshoots taken at carnivals, amusement parks, and boardwalks.4-MS-900px5. Hemlock Green + Paloma Grey
The subtle tones of Hemlock Green and Paloma Grey intermingle in these dapper vintage inspired outfits. A perfect fit for classy white beaches, cute main street downtown areas, outdoor cafes, and farmer’s markets. Accessorize with whites and creams to complete the look. A nostalgic color combination that blends softly with the surrounding area.5-MS-900px6. Dazzling Blue + Freesia Yellow
The unbeatable combination of Dazzling Blue and Freesia Yellow is bright, cheerful, and fantastically photogenic. Let strong blue tones constitute the majority of the outfits while accessorizing with deliciously cheerful pops of yellow. A perfect look for almost any setting. Your photos will be colorful, summery, and bold!6-MS-900px 7. Sand + Placid Blue + Hemlock Green
Create a look of serenity and unity by combining Sand, Placid Blue, and Hemlock Green. These colors will really shine during golden hour lighting, and look fantastic on just about anyone. Simple, casual pieces create an outfit that’s easy to put together and looks great in front of the lens. Try keeping the lines in your clothing as simple as possible to make your faces the star of the show!7-MS-900px 8. Celosia Orange + Placid Blue
Celosia Orange and Placid Blue combine for a colorful, casual appeal. With a single article of clothing sporting one of these strong hues, little more is needed to complete the outfit. A long skirt for the ladies and a breezy button-up for the guys is comfortable and flattering, helping you relax into your best looks for the camera.8-MS-900px

I hope you enjoyed that! As you could probably tell, it is always important to balance your colourful pieces of clothing with neutral clothes as well. Select a couple of your favourite colourful pieces and then build from there. Here are all the outfits together with their colours:

You may remember Katie and Matt from their awesome holi powder engagement session. They met at church through the young adults ministry there, they became friends there and started dating. To read more about their story and proposal just click HERE.

Katie and Matt got married last June (yes, a year ago…I am really behind on my blogging :S) on a wonderful spring day in Langley. The whole day it seemed like it might rain, but it never did – which made for awesome portraits! Their wedding colours were royal blue and white, which is evident throughout the whole day. These two are such a sweet couple and were so much fun to photograph, Matt loves the camera 😛  I will let you see for yourself, enjoy the photos!

I am so excited to announce that I have a photo in Real Weddings Magazine!!! It’s my first Real Weddings feature and it’s just one photo in the engagement section, but I am very happy and wanted to share my excitement with everyone!  😀  I knew the magazine was out, but I hadn’t been able to find it at my local London Drugs or Safeway, I decided to check out a Langley London Drugs while I was out there and sure enough Real Weddings magazine was on the stands! So, I bought 4 copies and explained to the cashier that one of my photos was in it haha. Here are some photos I took of the magazine when I got home:

I am designing their engagement guest book/album right now and it’s looking awesome!Real_Weddings_blog-6
