Hi everyone!

If you have been keeping up-to-date with my facebook page, you will have already noticed that I am heading to Austria tomorrow!
I will be out of the office from May 2 – May 23.
Feel free to email me regardless, I will be checking my emails as often as I can.

My family and I are going on this trip mostly because it was my grandmother/grossmutti’s 90th birthday the end of April! We are celebrating that, and as she is my last living grandparent we want to cherish her as much as we can. We will be visiting friends and family (I can’t wait to see you all!) and spending a few days in Croatia. I have never been to Croatia before, so it will be a new experience. I am excited! I will probably have to do a blog post about it all when I get back haha.

But, for now here are some instagrams of my April, 2012:
Easter eggs, chocolate, my two puppies, NEW lenses, peanut-butter and chocolate chip rolls, my new hair cut (thank you Tiffany Gatto!), a guacamole grilled cheese sandwich, confetti hearts, some awesome people (Cedar Park crew), a 50% off card waiting to be hidden, and my handsome boyfriend pretty much sum it all up! 🙂

Did you notice Brodie and Gradie’s size difference now?! Brodie is about 18lbs and Gradie is 9lbs haha it’s ridiculous.

Anyway, a quick thank you to all the lovely ladies who will be taking care of our house and the puppies while we are gone – seriously, THANK YOU SO MUCH! My family can’t thank you enough for what you are doing. I look forward to skyping with you and the puppies when we are in Austria! Good luck and God bless.

Lots of love, Marie

PS even though I will be out of the office, I will still try to update my blog at least once while I am gone! So stay tuned! 🙂

Kate & Aaron are the winners of my “Valentine’s Day Couples Giveaway!” that I did back in February on my facebook page.

I first met Kate & Aaron at their wedding end of May, 2011. I was second-shooting for Mathias Fast. It was such a cute wedding and I had so much fun photographing it, especially photographing Kate and her bridesmaids! All I could think of afterwards was “these girls are awesome!! I want to be their friend!” haha So, needless to say we had a great time and I thought I would share a few of their wedding images that I took:

For their free couples shoot we went to Langley and basically stuck to one location with TONS of variety, I would love to go shoot there again. Enjoy the photos! 🙂

So cute.

Hahaha they are funny 🙂

In honor of them winning the Valentine’s Day Giveaway, I thought some heart confetti photos would be appropriate! 🙂

Mega-flare.

They are serious models. And isn’t this old gas station cool!?

I thought I might test one of my new lenses and go across the street for these next photos:

Happy (Early) 1 Year Anniversary Kate & Aaron!! 😀

If you liked this couples session and what I’m doing, please feel free to “like” below and “pin it” even! Thanks so much!

Oh my goodness I LOVED this session. SO SO much. We had TONS of fun and it was so nice to just hang out with Dan and Amy – there are amazing people and an absolutely adorable couple! I remember when they first started dating, I was a member of Dan’s youth group at the time, and we were all so happy for him/curious about who she was haha. Turns out she is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. 🙂 And now, look at them! 3 years later (is that right Dan and Amy? haha) they are getting married!! I couldn’t be more excited for their wedding!

I just want to share a summarized version of their proposal story by Amy (because it is so sweet!):

“Dan had planned a special “Hallowe’en Date” for us but didn’t tell me any of the details. All I knew was that we were going to be watching some scary movies. That morning Dan had made a list of things for me to bring: a cooler, rain clothes and gum boots! He ended up driving me to the top of Mt Seymour and led me to a cute cabin in the woods. There he lit a fire, we carved some pumpkins, watched some scary videos, and then he made me dinner. After dinner, he asked if I wanted to watch another video. That video turned out to be a recording of a Skype conversation he had that morning with my parents, asking them for their blessing! Dan got down on his knee and proposed. I laughed through the whole thing, haha! And of course I said yes!!! We ended the evening with some celebratory fireworks in the parking lot.”

Way to go Dan!

For Dan & Amy’s engagement session, we wanted to create a bit of a theme. These are Amy’s words: “The themes for our photo shoot came from things we enjoy. I love to be outside in nature and Dan loves watching films, so why not combine the two? We also both have a love for traveling. My parents even drove across Canada in a van on their honeymoon. So, when Marie mentioned a VW van, we knew that it would be perfect for recreating a road trip together.”

That pretty much sums it up – so take a look at this super fun engagement session!

A BIG thanks to my dear friend; Allissa Best, for assisting me and another BIG thanks to my dad and my boyfriend; Chris Ekren for helping me build the tent! 🙂

Yes, I can be cheesy sometimes haha

Such a cute banner Amy made!!

Not only are they each other’s “honey” but their wedding favors will be honey too!

Where to next?

Love this haha

Gorgeous pearl ring.

Hehe 🙂

The brought popcorn!

And some candy and a few of their favourite movies!

Dan made up a song and was singing it to Amy as we were shooting these photos, I wish I could remember the words haha it was so cute/silly.

This happened naturally and I was so glad I captured it! haha

And another BIG thanks to my neighbour; Eric Reijne for letting me rent out his awesome volkswagen van! If anyone is interested in renting it (photographers, videographers, etc.) give him a call at: 778-886-5694!

If you liked this session and what I’m doing, please feel free to “like” below and “pin it” as well! It is much appreciated 😀

This engagement session is featured on How He Asked and Borrowed & Bleu! YAY!

Meet Stephanie and Daniel:

I had so much fun with these two! They are SO cute!! I must have said “that’s soooo cute!” at least 30 times during their engagement session haha Stephanie and Daniel first met at Willingdon Church in Burnaby, so they wanted to shoot their engagement session there and at Deer Lake Park, where Daniel proposed! And oh my goodness do they have an awesome proposal story! It would be too difficult for me to write it all out for you, so here is Stephanie’s version (it’s a must read):

We had known we wanted to get married this July, so I was wondering how he would keep the proposal a surprise with the date coming up so soon – but he went above and beyond!!
On the Tuesday night he called me and gave me a list of four different bags to pack, each including different outfit changes. He told me to have them packed and ready to go at any moment. On Wednesday he told me to check my email – he had sent me a romantic poem that mentioned I should bring Bag #2 to our youth group that night. After youth, he gave me another poem that led us to Starbucks. The next poem led us to Deer Lake, which is one of our favourite spots to go. When we parted ways at the end of the night I was definitely excited – when would I use the next bag? What would we do next? When we said goodnight he gave me two envelopes – one was bulky, the other had instructions that said to open it Friday morning at 10am sharp.
I opened the first envelope on Friday, which had a poem instructing me to grab Bag #3, and skytrain to Broadway station where I could then open the bulky envelope. When I got there and opened it, inside was a set of car keys! Daniel called me and directed me to where he had parked his car. On the dashboard was another poem and a map with directions. I drove to our favourite coffee shop and there he was 🙂 For the rest of the day we followed different clues and poems that brought back precious memories from over our years together. As the night was wrapping up I really felt as though he would be proposing – we were in my neighbourhood and everything, so it would be so convenient to go and tell my parents right afterwards!! Plus, he had made it extremely clear that he had plans with his family the next day, so if he didn’t propose tonight he wouldn’t be back until Sunday – and that was just too far away, in my opinion! However, it started to snow and he had to drive home safely, so he promptly left – without proposing!! I went to bed feeling more and more curious.
The next morning I got up to do homework, and who should walk into my kitchen but Daniel! He made my entire family a beautiful sit-down breakfast before whisking me away on another adventurous, clue-filled day – with the help of Bag #1. Finally, after surprising me over and over again all day, we arrived at Deer Lake around 10:30pm. When I got out of the car, Daniel blindfolded me and led me down a path. When he took off the blindfold we were on the boardwalk, which was lined by red and white lights and were also in the trees all the way down to a dock. The dock was lined with lights as well and on it was a lighted canopy, a couch, an electric heater, an ipod/speakers, and a thermos (I found out later that he had rented a generator in order to do all of this!). We sat on the couch looking at the still lake, bundled up in blankets he had brought and sipping hot chocolate he had packed in the thermos. He got out one last envelope and read me a fairy tale he had written about us, from the time we first met all the way until the present moment (covering about 3 1/2 years of storyline!). Then Daniel put on some music and asked me if I wanted to dance. We danced for a couple songs and when he went down to turn the music off, he got down on one knee and pulled out a box from his back pocket. The box had the most gorgeous ring I had ever seen in it! (Turns out Bag #4 had been a decoy to make me think he was proposing on Sunday!) He proceeded to tell me how much I meant to him and why he wanted to spend his life with me – and he asked me to marry him!! I said yes!!

We got engaged on Saturday January 14 ☺
SO cute right!? It makes my heart all tingly haha

For their engagement session we started inside Willingdon church first.
Both Stephanie and Daniel want to go into full-time ministry so it only made sense that they get a few photos with their Bibles 😛Thanks to the lighting guy at Willingdon for making this next shot happen, I am SO happy with how it turned out.

Stephanie and Daniel work with the children in their church, so we thought it would be fun to get a few photos in that area.

It rained all day during their engagement session, but I wanted to re-create that night Daniel proposed a bit (blanket, hot chocolate, etc.) and so after taking photos in the church we braved the rain and got some awesome shots outside in the exact place where Daniel got on one knee!

Some Notebook-style kisses 😛

Stephanie and Daniel; you are such an adorable couple and I couldn’t be happier to be shooting your wedding this summer! 🙂

PS Thanks to Abbye for letting me borrow her lovely knitted Afghan blanket! And thanks to my wonderful friend Rebecca Houweling for assisting me!
