Valentine’s Day Contest!

Hi there beautiful people!

I am back from Belize and Honduras, what an adventure that was! Besides some sickness and a lot of bug bites, I had an amazing time and met some incredible people! I will do a blog post about it sometime later in the month. I have a LOT of photos to go through haha. In the meantime, I wanted to blog about my annual Valentine’s Day contest! 😀

As I am sure I have mentioned before I love LOVE and nothing makes me happier than capturing the love shared between people on camera. Mostly, I photograph couples, but this Valentine’s Day I want to focus on not only the couples in love, but also the love shared between your family, friends, pets (hehe), etc. In short, if you don’t have a significant other you can still enter the contest! The winner will receive a FREE portrait session by me!!!

The last couple years I did this giveaway entirely through Facebook and while that worked pretty well, it was hard to keep track of everyone who entered. This year I am doing things a little differently. At the bottom of this post you will find a box with ways to enter the contest. Each type of entry has a number value, you can tweet about the contest or share it on facebook once a day and get multiple entries from that! The more entries you make, the more likely you are to win. The winner of the contest will be picked randomly on February 15. This is the only time of year I give away an absolutely FREE session so I suggest you enter now. 🙂

Out of Office January 11-25 | Marie Skerl Photography

I am going to try and make this short because it is 2am and I have a flight to catch in the morning! I am headed to Belize and Roatan, Honduras for the next 2 weeks to take photos for SAMS Canada. I have always wanted to do missions, so when this opportunity came up I decided to take it 🙂 Being a professional photographer, doing what I love, has been a true blessing from God and this is my time to give back. I have never been to South America before, so this will be an adventure to say the least haha! Your thoughts and prayers are much appreciated.

I don’t know how much wi-fi there will be in the places that I am staying, so I will reply to all emails and facebook messages when I return. Thank you all for understanding. Because I haven’t done an end of the year blog post or best of 2013 post I just want to say what an awesome year it was! I am SO blessed by my clients and I feel incredibly lucky to have been there to capture their special moments; weddings, engagements, family session, newborn photos, boudoir/glamour photos, etc. It’s been a blast! THANK YOU for making 2013 so awesome! <3 Below are just a few personal favourite photos from the year.

I have been learning some Spanish the past couple months in preparation for this trip (I am still not very good haha) but I can say Beunas Noches!

Kim & Steve | Langley Wedding Photographer

I am SO behind on my blogging and I apologize. The last few months of 2013 were much busier than I anticipated! I hope everyone is well and had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 😀

Today, I want to blog the wedding of a seriously awesome couple; Kim and Steve. You may remember them from their stunning Penticton engagement session, it is still one of my all-time favourites. Kim is a cancer survivor (she had the same cancer as Terry Fox and chose to have her leg amputated to save her life), she a big inspiration to all those around her. She has been training for the paralympics and is just about a month away from being a mom!! SO exciting! She has a great blog about her life here: http://kimkracing.blogspot.ca/. And not to leave Steve out, Steve owns a mechanic shop; Back 40 Mechanical in Langley and has been a wonderful support system for Kim and I’m sure will be an amazing dad soon! 🙂

Kim and Steve’s wedding was back in February 2013 (I told you I was behind on my blogging) at the lovely Langley Golf Centre. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect; cloudy with the sun peaking out every now and then to warm us up. From their super sweet first look to the beautiful decor and the fun atmosphere of the reception, this was a wedding I won’t soon forget. Enjoy the photos!

Alanna & Kyle | Vancouver Wedding Photographer

Because of all the blustery (is that a word?) weather lately and the noticeable drop in temperature, I think it’s time I blog Alanna & Kyle’s wedding from January! We can remember all the good things that come with the fall and winter time, even though right now all I want is for the sun to come back haha. Alanna and Kyle’s wedding was filled with laughter, ice skates, a fur coat, pink-ness, family and the true love between Alanna and Kyle. They are such an awesome couple! You may remember them from their couch-and-tv-in-a-field engagement session, if not you should check it out! Alanna is probably one of the most caring people I have ever met and Kyle is her Superman (you will get that reference later on in the post). I thoroughly enjoyed photographing their wedding and hope you enjoy the photos!

Michael & Jill | Vancouver Engagement

I met Michael and Jill at Christoph & Monique’s wedding (still one of my all-time favourite weddings) back in August 2011. I remember them dancing together and they were clearly so in love, it was like they were in their own world just the two of them. Fast forward to now and they are still SO in love. They had no problem cuddling and kissing in front of the camera and their chemistry was clear.

While we were taking their engagement photos I asked Michael and Jill how they met, Jill said “it was like a fairy tale.” They met on a blind date – grabbing beers at a local pub. As soon as they saw each other there was an instant connection! Some might call it “love at first sight.” They started dating from then on and fell more and more in love.

So, how did Mike propose? These are Jill’s words; “The proposal was really sweet. Mike picked up the ring on a Thursday, and intended to propose on the weekend but once he had the ring he couldn’t wait! He called me and told me to stop cooking dinner, he wanted to be spontaneous and go out! We went for dinner at a place in our neighbourhood, and then he suggested taking the long way home, through a park we often go to. While in the park, he got down on one knee, and with a few tears from both of us, popped the question and I said yes! Well, actually I nodded a lot because I was crying so many happy tears, and he laughed and said ‘you actually have to say yes!'” Mike proposed exactly a year ago today!!

Michael and Jill met in Vancouver, but their wedding was in Toronto, so they wanted some very Vancouver engagement photos to remember the place they fell in love. We took photos under the Burrard Street Bridge and then walked along Sunset Beach taking more photos til we got to the old boat hull. It was an absolutely gorgeous day!

Michael and Jill got married in Toronto a couple weeks ago! Congrats you two! 😀 <3

This is what Jill said about the wedding; “Our wedding ceremony was beautiful, and then a great big party! We got married in Toronto, which is where I’m from, and had the wedding at the beautiful Assembly Hall. The evening ceremony was outside under the trees, and then once we were married the party got started! There were ‘welcome to the family’ toasts from both of our dads, and then Mike surprised me by singing two songs to me in front of everyone with a barbershop quartet (that’s his hobby). It was amazing, and blew everyone away. Then a great cover band I know from university, Burning Bridges took the stage and everyone danced the night away!”

A big thanks to Kaylin for assisting me on this session! And another congratulations on getting married to Mike & Jill!!
