Kaylin and Gideon; these two are SO cute and SO fun!! The way I met Kaylin is actually a funny story, she saw a guest blog post I did for Jon-Mark (awesome photographer by the way) and emailed me because she was interested in the same photo program that I took at Langara College. We communicated back and forth and I told her my experience and the knowledge I gained from the program, I also mentioned she could buy my textbooks too haha. Kaylin decided that she wanted to do the photo program, so she moved from Nanaimo to Vancouver! We met up for the first time at the place she was staying and she bought my textbooks. We had a good chat and ended up talking more as she went through the program and I started using her as my assistant on engagement sessions and weddings! She is wonderful and we have been friends ever since.
Now onto how Kaylin and Gideon met! This is a good story. I will let Kaylin’s words take it from here: “We met online on a site called christianmingle.com We’re practically one of those happy success stories you see in the commercials!” For their first date: “Gideon had said to me that he had always wanted to know what it was like to be blind in the city, so he wanted to try something. He had me (shortly after meeting up with him) blindfold him, and lead him around through transit, downtown etc. It was all a clever ruse to get me to hold his hand, and was basically like an ultimate first date trust exercise. I think part of it too was he wanted to make sure I could put up with all the crazy and kooky things that he does on a daily basis haha. We ended up spending the entire day together, going to church that morning, going for lunch with friends, making cookies in the afternoon, and finishing the day with a lovely walk around false creek where we held each others hand the entire way, no blindfold necessary. :P”
I remember Kaylin talking about her relationship Gideon as I would drive her to my next vancouver engagement session and things were getting pretty serious. Sure enough on August 23rd, 2013 Gideon proposed:
“Gideon had two of his best friends who helped pull the whole thing off. They brought an entire dinner set up with Sangria, chocolate and cheese fondue with a fancy table, chairs and candles everywhere out to the docks near Gideon’s house (Marine drive/Burnaby border). His friend Alex dressed as a waiter and served us. After a wonderful time Gideon asked if I was ready for desert, and I laughed and said “Dessert! We just had fondue!”. Alex brought out a bowl with tinfoil on it that had “Special Dessert” written in sharpie. If you haven’t figured it out yet, the ring was in the bowl 🙂 His proposal was beautiful and so sweet, and I was balling my eyes out. Unfortunately he had forgotten napkins, so I had to wipe my eyes with the tablecloth. He said there was also a “part 2” to dessert. I couldn’t believe there was more, but then turning around I saw my best friend and fellow photographer Diana who had been shooting the entire thing! It was completely amazing!”
Such a cute proposal!! Well done Gideon! For their engagement session Kaylin wanted something outside and with the sunshine back lighting them, which is my favourite type of lighting (and she knows that haha). I wanted to make sure we got that. We ended up re-scheduling about 4 times til we finally got a date that looked like we would get some sunshine. We allllmost called the engagement session off again right before because there were these large, dark, ominous clouds over Deer Lake Park – but as soon as I started putting my camera gear on, the clouds began to disappear and the sunshine came out! Thanks God.
The photos were taken in March, so we had some cherry blossom trees to shoot with! Enjoy the photos!
Hehe they are cute.
Gorgeous girl!
Gideon: “I think what I most love about Kaylin is her heart, she has a heart of fairness and cares and loves everyone around her. She believes in doing what is right. She’s smart, she’s brilliant, she’s beautiful, and I love that she always puts her trust and Faith in God with whatever she does.”
Kaylin: “Gideon has the biggest heart out of anyone I know. He’s so caring, loyal, honest, and also super talented and unique. I love his integrity, and his dedication to his faith, friends, family and loved ones. All around i’m just a really lucky girl to call him mine. 🙂 ”
It was quite a chilly day, but luckily Kaylin and Gideon brought a blanket to keep warm.Gideon probably has the thickest eyelashes I have ever seen on a guy before! So pretty 😛
Cute mugs!
BAM! Loved this session! 😀
It was fun photographing Kaylin, we were both loving the light and talked about it…probably non-stop haha. Gideon you are such fun and I am SO excited to be photographing your wedding TOMORROW!! Lots of love, Marie
